Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many people can go to the supermarket and get their hands on all types of foods, produced in any part of the world. Most people believe that this is a good step to make any type of food available to market. I also agree with this and consider this a positive development in this era of much development and peak of technology. However, there may be cons to this side. Throughout this essay I will be supporting my opinion through specific examples.

One of the reason I am supporting this stance is that. as we have access to internet and we see all types of food on social media platforms and we really think of buying on our next spree to market and tasting it, just by seeing it online. Now for instance you go to market and couldn't find that specific food or ingredient used in that recipie you would really be disappointed. Consequently, you would be heartbroken and would decide to never go to that supermarket again. So, this is kind of positive development in a way people can engage and become sort of global in these items.

On the other hand, a little disconcern may be that people only start to buy all the exported food and don't prefer their own country items. Although, this is not possible for all people.

To sum up, there are some countries which buy food from all over the world to bring a sense of variety for their customers and also provide value to their customers preferences. Personally, I think that this development positives outweighs its negatives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is broadly positive, stated in the introduction and repeated in the conclusion, and you acknowledge a possible drawback: imported food might reduce preference for local products. However, the response only partially develops the task. The main supporting point focuses on being able to buy foods seen on social media, but the example about becoming disappointed and avoiding a supermarket is speculative and does not explain wider benefits of global food availability. The drawback is mentioned briefly and then dismissed with “this is not possible for all people,” without explanation. To strengthen the response, develop two relevant reasons—such as greater consumer choice or access to foods unavailable locally—and explain the counterargument and why your overall view remains positive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a supporting paragraph, a paragraph beginning “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the direction of the response generally easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “However,” “Consequently,” and “To sum up.” At times, though, connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening of the first body paragraph, “One of the reason I am supporting this stance is that. as we have access to internet,” breaks the sentence and makes the relationship between the claim and explanation difficult to follow. The final paragraph introduces a new point about countries providing variety rather than clearly synthesising the earlier discussion. Use clearer topic sentences and link each example directly to its main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “variety,” “preferences,” “exported food,” and “global,” and the meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations sound unnatural, which reduces precision. For example, “get their hands on” is informal for this essay, “a little disconcern” does not express the intended concern naturally, and “this development positives outweighs its negatives” is an inaccurate phrase. There are also spelling errors such as “recipie.” Aim for precise topic vocabulary and check word forms and collocations. For instance, describe the availability of international products as “access to imported foods,” and refer to “concerns” about local products rather than “disconcern.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if you go to market and couldn't find that specific food” and a contrast introduced by “Although.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled, and errors sometimes make the intended relationships harder to understand. Examples include the sentence fragment “One of the reason I am supporting this stance is that. as we have access to internet,” the shift from “go” to “couldn't find,” and the incomplete construction “Although, this is not possible for all people.” There are also agreement and sentence-boundary problems in “this development positives outweighs its negatives.” Practise building complete sentences with consistent verb forms, accurate subject–verb agreement, and clear punctuation; then proofread each sentence for a complete main clause.
