Student answer (Band 6.0)

Todays, people can buy different kinds of food grown in other countries without travelling there. They just visit their supermarkets and purchase a variety of food from there. In my opinion, it is a positive innovation and in this essay i will give different reasons to support my claim

The primary reason is that it contributes to the economy of a country. It means that when a country exports its different kind of foods such as fruits and vegetables, it achieves different benefits. Their reputation and relations will become strong, if the quality of their goods is superb. Despite conflicts between two countries the country's import and export never impedes, it helps them to maintain a source of income in those difficult situations. It does not matter what is yours and your country's condition, food is essential for living.

Another factor why i think that it is a positive development because people always want to try something new and special in taste. People usually get bore of daily routine meals and lunches, so they wish that thay should eat something different. The facility of buying all kinds of food produced all over the world allows them to taste something that they have never tasted. Sometimes the doctor prescribes you a special kind of food that does not grow in your country, you can get it from any nearby supermarket where imported food is available.

In conclusion, the opportunity of having all types of fruits and vegetables in your local market is not beneficial only just for local residents but also for the countries. I believe that it is a positive progression because it plays a key role in import and export of a country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider worldwide supermarket food a positive development, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including benefits to exporting countries and consumers’ ability to try unfamiliar foods or obtain particular foods. However, the economic point is not fully explained: the claims about stronger relations and trade continuing despite conflicts are broad and would benefit from a specific example or clearer explanation. The point about food prescribed by a doctor is also introduced briefly rather than developed. To strengthen the response, explain how each reason directly answers whether this development is positive and support the claims with concrete examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs each focus on a main reason, and signposts such as “The primary reason,” “Another factor” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. This already gives the essay a coherent arrangement. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however: the discussion of international relations, conflict and food being essential moves quickly between points without showing their connection. The phrase “Another factor why…” also creates an awkward transition into the second reason. Use clearer topic sentences and add linking explanations between claims so the organisation feels less formulaic and the relationships between ideas are more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including topic-related terms such as “exports,” “import,” “supermarkets” and “produced all over the world.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “positive development” and “plays a key role.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “different kind of foods,” “get bore of daily routine meals,” and “positive progression.” Spelling and word-form slips such as “thay” and “Todays” also reduce precision. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe consumers as becoming “tired of eating the same meals” rather than using a direct translation-like phrase.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause (“if the quality of their goods is superb”) and a relative clause (“where imported food is available”). The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. Examples include “in this essay i will” (capitalisation), “Another factor why i think that it is a positive development because…” (an incomplete or incorrectly joined structure), and “people usually get bore” (incorrect verb form). There are also issues with articles, agreement and punctuation, as in “different kind of foods” and the comma before “if.” Work on building accurate complex sentences and proofreading sentence boundaries, verb forms and capitalisation.
