Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

i am writing to ask if my work schedule can be trimmed a bit as i am planning to commence study part time along with my work, therefore, i am wondering if you can give me a tiny time space on some days like the starting days of the week when we do not have much work orders.

if you allow me morning shifts will be beneficial to both of us as, most of the order pickups occur in morning time as customers pickup the material while onto their work site.

although i have decided to study digital marketing for passive income, it will prove worthy to you business as well in order to attain new consumers. in the city, there are plethora of young vendors who look to internet whenever they have to look or purchase something. therefore, allowing me to persue my part time studies can end up boosting up your compony's sale.

i hope you will think on this and help me to reorder my working hours.

Regards,

jassx

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain the reason for the request (part-time study), specify the desired hours (morning shifts), and describe the benefit to the employer (digital marketing skills for customer acquisition). The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a boss, though it could be slightly more professional. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'therefore', 'although', and 'as', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transitions between sentences could be smoother, and the paragraphing is slightly inconsistent. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'commence', 'beneficial', and 'plethora'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'trimmed a bit', 'tiny time space', and 'work orders'. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'persue' (pursue) and 'compony's' (company's). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise professional terminology would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including the lack of capitalization for 'I', missing articles, and punctuation issues (e.g., 'morning time', 'onto their work site'). While the meaning is generally clear, these frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation are noticeable. To improve, focus on consistent capitalization, correct article usage, and refining sentence structure to ensure better accuracy in complex sentences.
