Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: explaining the reason for the request, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which limits the depth of the ideas. The explanation of how the studies benefit the company is quite brief and could have been expanded with more specific examples of how the new skills would be applied to your current role. To improve, ensure you elaborate on each point to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive justification for your request.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'This will help me' and 'As I learn', which provide some flow. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition to this'. The overall structure is clear, but the paragraphing could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite simple. You use basic phrases like 'improve my knowledge' and 'gain new skills'. While these are accurate, they lack the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'approve my this request' (should be 'approve this request') and 'Your faithfully' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). To improve, try to incorporate more professional and specific vocabulary related to workplace requests and professional development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('if you reduce' instead of 'if you could reduce'), capitalization errors ('i' instead of 'I'), and punctuation inconsistencies. The sentence 'As I learn new skill and gain new knowledge which I use in my work that will boost our company and we gain profit' is a run-on sentence that lacks clarity. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors and ensuring subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
