Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Aviaane,
I am writting this letter to infrom you about the reduction in number of hours due to part time studies.
I am starting a part time program in business analytics, which would require me to reduce my working hour and invest that time in focusing on completing my program. I was planning to work on weekends and study during weekdays. Although, I would be available in case the team needs my assitance. During weekends I would be available full day and rest of the week I would be able to make time in evening with prior heads up.
My program is very beneficial for the business as well because it will allow me to develop more operational skills. Which would allow be to have a bigger picture of what actually drives results for the business.
I would appreciate if you could accomodate these changes into the schedule, and provide me the flexiblity to work on weekday evenings and weekends.
sincerly,
Om.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: it explains the reason for the request (part-time studies), specifies the desired working hours (weekends and weekday evenings), and describes the benefits to the employer (operational skills and a broader business perspective). The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the explanation of the benefits could be slightly more detailed to fully develop the argument. Overall, the response successfully addresses all parts of the task in a clear and professional manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body, and closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the request. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'During', and 'because' are used to link ideas, though the flow could be improved with more varied transition words. The paragraphing is sufficient for a short letter. While the structure is generally sound, the connection between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more natural, professional flow. The use of referencing is clear, and the reader can easily follow the writer's intent throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'writting', 'infrom', 'assitance', 'accomodate', 'flexiblity', and 'sincerly'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede communication. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; using more precise professional terminology would elevate the score. For example, instead of 'make time', using 'adjust my schedule' would be more appropriate for a formal business context. The writer demonstrates a basic ability to use topic-specific language related to work and study.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the' before 'number of hours') and punctuation issues (the sentence starting with 'Which' is a fragment). Additionally, there is a misuse of 'Although' at the start of a sentence without a main clause following it. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading. The control of verb tenses is generally consistent, but the sentence construction lacks the precision required for higher band scores.
