Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear sir,
This is a reference to the request of reducing my working hours as my part time studies will start soon.
I am enrolling in the part time course of Master's in civil engineering. My classes will start from the next week's monday. As my job requires the full attention on the tasks, which I will perform on that perticular time, I will not be able to attend my class in the working hours.
Because, my class will start in the afternoon from 12 PM to 5 PM, I will be able to work either in the evening after 5 PM, or in the morning from 7 AM to 11:30 AM. I am assuring you that, I will complete all my work on the assign time. No project will be delayed because of me.
After getting the degree of master's in civil engineering, I can be helpful to get the many major projects, which we lose because a client asked for the employee who have completed the master's in civil engineering. Also, I can use my enhanced knowledge to identify the materials, which will be using onsites without seeking the help from others. So, I can do the 2 persons work alone, and it can help to reduce the time and resources of our office, so It can help us to earn more profit to our firm.
Looking forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Piyush Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained the reason for your request, specified your preferred working hours, and provided a persuasive argument regarding how your studies would benefit your employer. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a supervisor. However, the development of ideas is slightly repetitive in the final paragraph, where you discuss the benefits of your degree. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are concise and avoid over-explaining simple concepts. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Also' and 'So', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother. For instance, the transition between your proposed hours and the benefits of your study could be more fluidly connected to improve the overall flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'enrolling', 'enhanced knowledge', and 'resources'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'on the assign time' (should be 'at the assigned time') and 'do the 2 persons work' (should be 'do the work of two people'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over idiomatic expressions and professional terminology. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated collocations related to business and professional development would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'This is a reference to the request of reducing' (should be 'I am writing to request a reduction in'), 'perticular' (spelling error), and 'which will be using onsites' (should be 'which will be used on-site'). There are also some issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and common spelling mistakes. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you reach a higher band.
