Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear sir,
This is a reference to the request of reducing my working hours as my part time studies will start soon.
I am enrolling in the part time course of Master's in civil engineering. My classes will start from the next week's monday. As my job requires the full attention on the tasks, which I will perform on that perticular time, I will not be able to attend my class in the working hours.
Because, my class will start in the afternoon from 12 PM to 5 PM, I will be able to work either in the evening after 5 PM, or in the morning from 7 AM to 11:30 AM. I am assuring you that, I will complete all my work on the assign time. No project will be delayed because of me.
After getting the degree of master's in civil engineering, I can be helpful to get the many major projects, which we lose because a client asked for the employee who have completed the master's in civil engineering. Also, I can use my enhanced knowledge to identify the materials, which will be using onsites without seeking the help from others. So, I can do the 2 persons work alone, and it can help to reduce the time and resources of our office, so It can help us to earn more profit to our firm.
Looking forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Piyush Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for the request (Master's studies), specify the desired working hours, and provide a persuasive argument regarding how your studies will benefit the employer. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. However, some ideas, such as the claim that you can do the work of two people, are slightly over-generalized and could be supported with more professional phrasing. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph dedicated to a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Also' and 'Looking forward to', to link ideas. However, the progression between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between the explanation of your schedule and the benefits to the employer could be smoother. Paragraphing is used correctly to separate the introduction, the body, and the closing. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words to connect your arguments more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enrolling', 'enhanced knowledge', and 'resources'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'on the assign time' (should be 'at the assigned time') and 'get the many major projects' (should be 'secure many major projects'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Using more precise professional terminology would elevate the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'This is a reference to the request of reducing' (should be 'regarding my request to reduce'), 'perticular' (spelling), and 'which will be using onsites' (should be 'which will be used on-site'). Additionally, there are some issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on proofreading for common errors in verb tense and preposition usage.
