Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Manish,
I am writing this email to you because I want to reduce my working hours. As, it's been two years when I finished my studies and I am thinking to pursue digital marketing course. I have a keen interest in this field and want to develop my skills which can help me in my career growth.
The classes would be part time in the evening. My class would be from 5pm to 7pm daily, so I can work from 9am to 4pm. My less working hours would not affect my projects because it's only two hours daily that would be shorton.
After completing this course, I can help the marketing team to expand our business digitally in the global world. It would also assist my peers becuase I can train them new softwares and techniques after this course. I would really appreciate if you can do some adjustment and allow me this for next two months.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Lakhwinder kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for studying, specify the requested working hours (9 am to 4 pm), and outline the benefits to your employer, such as digital marketing expansion and peer training. The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between your studies and the employer's benefit is more explicitly detailed; for example, you could mention specific digital marketing tools or projects you intend to improve upon to make the argument more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'After completing this course' and 'It would also assist', which help link your sentences. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the use of 'As, it's been two years' at the start of the second paragraph is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pursue', 'keen interest', and 'career growth'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'shorton' (which is not a standard word) and 'train them new softwares' (the verb 'train' usually takes 'in' or 'on', and 'software' is an uncountable noun). To improve, focus on using more precise terminology and ensuring that word forms are used correctly. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated collocations related to professional development would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'As, it's been two years when I finished' (should be 'since I finished') and 'I would really appreciate if you can do some adjustment' (should be 'could make some adjustments'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of tense when discussing past events and future intentions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
