Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained the reason for your request (part-time study), specified your preferred working hours (8 am to 2 pm), and clearly articulated how your employer would benefit from your new skills, such as improved troubleshooting and cost-efficiency. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, you could briefly mention how your current role relates to the PLC system to make the argument more persuasive. Overall, the task requirements are met effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the request to the justification and the benefits. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'As', which help the reader follow your argument. However, the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some minor improvements in sentence connectivity would enhance the overall readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using technical terms like 'PLC system', 'troubleshooting', and 'electrical components' appropriately. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'mechincal', 'realted', 'rapdily', 'decreae', and 'maintaing'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading your work to eliminate these simple spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations to express your ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is often missing or misused), verb forms ('these course also providing'), and punctuation (incorrect spacing before commas). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentences are punctuated correctly. Focusing on these foundational areas will help you produce more error-free sentences.
