Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the proposed hours, and the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these points is limited. The explanation of the schedule is confusing and difficult to follow, and the benefit to the employer is stated in very general terms rather than being clearly explained. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the lack of detail and the somewhat disjointed nature of the arguments mean the response only partially satisfies the requirements of the task. To improve, ensure that your schedule is presented clearly and that you provide a more concrete example of how your studies will specifically help your company.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter uses basic paragraphing and some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly'. However, the progression of ideas is often unclear. The sentences within the paragraphs are sometimes disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally confusing, such as in the second paragraph where the description of working hours is difficult to interpret. The use of cohesive devices feels mechanical rather than natural. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'benifits' instead of 'benefits', 'employes' instead of 'employer', and 'sincerity' instead of 'sincerely'. The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'I am working on your company' instead of 'I work for your company'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in basic vocabulary items prevent a higher score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more professional and precise terms would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect preposition use, and tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'I would office work at a time finish'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and periods. While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent and noticeable throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and word order before submitting your work.
