Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to shorten my working hour for my study on part time basis.
My name is Tinkal Desai, working as a nursing tutor in your college for past 4 years. As of now it was very convenient for me to work on regular hours at Institute but from last 3 days I have started my part-time ‘Enhance nursing administration ‘course in batch 4pm- 7pm in which I am facing problems regarding not reaching on time at class. I am kindly requesting you to please access me part-time job facility from 8am-12pm if possible, I will try to manage my everyday 3 lectures in given time so that you would not have to find any extra nursing tutor.
I have chose this ‘Enhance nursing administration ‘ course because I get to know that this course helps individual to find a better pathway for future nursing placements. I hope this course will definitely facilitate us to guide our students to find better future according to their interest and preference.
Awaiting your positive response. Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Tinkal Desai

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for the request (the nursing administration course), specify the desired hours (8am-12pm), and explain the benefit to the employer (applying new knowledge to guide students). However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the course benefits the employer is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific examples of how the new skills would improve your teaching or administrative efficiency. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a boss, though some phrasing is slightly unnatural.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As of now', 'because', and 'in which', which help connect your thoughts. However, the use of linking words is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. To improve, try to vary your transitions and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the letter follows a standard formal structure, which helps the reader navigate your request effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'nursing tutor', 'part-time basis', and 'facilitate'. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'access me part-time job facility' instead of 'request a part-time schedule' or 'accommodate my request'. Additionally, 'I have chose' is a grammatical error that also affects lexical precision. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'shorten my working hour' should be 'shorten my working hours', and 'I have chose' should be 'I have chosen'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'at Institute' (should be 'at the institute') and 'not reaching on time at class' (should be 'not reaching class on time'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage will be beneficial.
