Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear friend

I hope you are doing well. I am writing in order to request regarding my availability for the Work.

As I was on my college day and I was able to go full-time, but now on my face started so I can only do part-time work as an part-time to the education minister only allows us to do 24 hours per week so for the upcoming month my availability would be shorter than full-time worker. I can only do five hours from Monday to Friday in the evening

My part-time studies would be really beneficial for us as first of all I can walk legally, and my arse and experience can be counted for the future as I am studying office administrating in my college that is linked to our work as well, so the skills that I will learn by focusing on my studies from my college would be really appreciated by every employee and it would really help me to elevate my skills while doing part-time studies and part-time job here in our company.

I hope you understand and looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

You’re sincerely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining the reason for the reduction, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. However, the tone is inconsistent; you addressed the letter to 'Dear friend' rather than a professional salutation suitable for a boss, and the language used is occasionally informal or confusing. While the ideas are relevant, the explanation regarding the 'education minister' and the link between your studies and the company could be developed with more clarity and professional focus to better persuade your employer.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally confusing. For example, the transition 'as first of all I can walk legally' is unclear and does not logically connect to the previous sentence. The flow between ideas is sometimes interrupted by awkward phrasing, which makes the progression of your argument feel a bit disjointed. Improving the use of linking words such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'therefore' would help create a smoother, more professional flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of word-choice errors that impede clarity. Phrases like 'on my face started' and 'office administrating' are incorrect and unnatural. Additionally, the term 'arse' appears to be a significant typo or misuse that is highly inappropriate for a professional letter. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise professional terminology and ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate for a formal request to a supervisor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction, such as 'I am writing in order to request regarding my availability' and 'I can only do five hours from Monday to Friday'. These errors, while not completely preventing understanding, occur frequently enough to distract the reader. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical errors and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound.
