Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining the reason for the reduction, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that the study will help with problem-solving, providing a more specific example of how this relates to your current role in the financial department would have strengthened the response. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the reader understands your request and the justification behind it.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is present, although the spacing is somewhat inconsistent and unconventional. You use some cohesive devices such as 'because' and 'not only... but', which help link ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition'). The referencing is generally clear, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, though the overall layout of the letter is a bit disjointed due to the irregular indentation and spacing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financial department', 'professional', and 'environment'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'employ' instead of 'employee' and 'future' instead of 'further'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated collocations and ensure that word forms (noun vs. verb) are used correctly. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'this study will not only for but will be beneficial' (missing a verb/object) and 'in weekdays' (should be 'on weekdays'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your request, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
