Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Armaan,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I am going to pursue a three month course related to Artificial Intelligence. It's my humble request if you can reduce my working hours ,so that I can focus on my studies.
I have my classes in the morning from 8 A.M. to 11 A.M. I can start working on my shift from 12 in the noon. I assure you to complete my work on time and my studies are not going to interfere with my performance at office.
Artificial intelligence will also help me to enhance my performance at workplace as I can use it to reduce time on small tasks so that I can use my efforts on the bigger tasks which will help your business to grow. Moreover, it will increase the productivity of doing work.
I hope that you will adjust my working hours. Thank you for understanding.
Yours faithfully,
Balbhader.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for the request (an AI course), specify the desired working hours (12 P.M. onwards), and provide a logical argument for how the employer will benefit from your new skills. The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a manager. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail regarding the specific nature of the AI course or how it integrates with your current daily responsibilities to make the proposal even more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a single aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'so that' to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, ensure that each paragraph flows naturally into the next by using a wider variety of linking words or phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'pursue a three month course' and 'enhance my performance' are well-chosen and appropriate for a professional context. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'productivity of doing work,' which sounds slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and idiomatic professional language. While your vocabulary is sufficient for the task, incorporating more sophisticated synonyms would help elevate your writing to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to understand. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'It's my humble request if you can reduce' (which is slightly awkward phrasing) and 'at office' (should be 'at the office'). Additionally, '12 in the noon' is non-standard; '12 P.M.' or 'noon' would be better. Your control of grammar is generally good, and these minor errors do not impede communication, but more attention to articles and prepositions would improve accuracy.
