Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining the reason for the request, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how Computer Science studies would benefit the employer is a bit vague and could have been expanded with more specific examples of how your technical skills would improve inventory or cost management. Despite this, all parts of the task are covered, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your request. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Also' to link your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing or punctuation errors. For example, the transition between the benefits of your studies and the closing statement is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your request, but there are several spelling errors ('upcomming', 'quizes', 'sechudale', 'helpfull', 'handel', 'odering') and some word choice issues. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication expected at higher bands. For example, 'putting cost ratio' is unclear and does not convey a professional meaning. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common professional terms and expanding your repertoire of collocations related to workplace tasks and academic study.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('assignment and quizes is'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms ('I will able to handel'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters in the middle of sentences ('Because', 'Semester', 'Tuesday'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and basic sentence structure will be very beneficial.
