Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the preferred hours, and the benefits to the employer. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The explanation of benefits is somewhat generic, and the overall tone is a bit informal for a formal request to a boss. To improve, you should expand on how your specific studies will directly translate into value for the company, and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for a more professional and detailed presentation of your case.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures and lack transition words to connect your ideas smoothly. For example, the transition between your desire to study and the proposed hours is abrupt. Using linking words such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition' would help the flow of your writing significantly. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion needs more variety to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is functional but basic. You use repetitive phrasing, such as 'I want' and 'I can', which limits the range of your expression. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'do better work in company' instead of 'contribute more effectively to the company'. To improve, try to incorporate more professional collocations and avoid repeating the same verbs. Using a wider variety of vocabulary related to business and professional development would demonstrate a stronger command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writing consists almost entirely of simple sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing articles ('in company', 'for company') and verb forms ('I want study' instead of 'I want to study', 'After finish' instead of 'After finishing'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the presence of persistent errors in basic grammar prevent a higher score. You should focus on mastering infinitive structures and prepositional phrases to improve the accuracy and complexity of your sentences.
