Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the preferred hours, and the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention a business writing course, the explanation of how it benefits the employer is a bit repetitive regarding 'customer service'. To reach a higher band, try to expand on how your studies will specifically improve your productivity or bring new skills to the team. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, though it could be slightly more professional in its phrasing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into three clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use some cohesive devices like 'Thus', 'After that', and 'This is because' to link ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'After that' to introduce the course details. The progression of ideas is logical, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more seamless. Overall, the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'effectively', 'crucial', and 'reputation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'my this course' (should be 'this course of mine' or just 'this course') and 'become able to provide' (should be 'be able to provide'). You also use 'than' instead of 'then' when discussing your schedule. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word forms are accurate in a professional context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a good start. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I will appreciate if you give me' (should be 'I would appreciate it if you could give me') and 'I choose business writing course' (should be 'I have chosen a business writing course'). There are also issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your request, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
