Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You explained your desire to study, specified the requested hours (Friday to Sunday, 8 am to 3 pm), and touched upon the benefits to your employer. However, the explanation of how your studies would benefit the employer is quite weak; you mention that you will be busy with research, but you do not explicitly state how this will help the restaurant. To improve, you should connect your business studies to your current role, such as suggesting you could apply new management or customer service techniques to improve restaurant operations. The tone is also slightly informal for a letter to a boss.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the request for hours and the explanation of the schedule is a bit abrupt. You rely heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'because.' To reach a higher band, try using more varied linking words and phrases such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in addition to this.' Additionally, the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with comma splices, which affects the flow of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your request clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'part-time,' 'business field,' and 'deadline.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'business filed' (should be 'field') and 'keep engaging my self' (should be 'keep myself engaged'). The closing 'Yours lovingly' is inappropriate for a professional letter to a boss; 'Yours sincerely' or 'Best regards' would be much more suitable. To improve, focus on using more precise professional collocations and ensuring correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement, such as 'I like to discuss' instead of 'I would like to discuss,' and run-on sentences caused by comma splices, such as 'I hope this letter finds you well, I am writing this...' You also have issues with prepositions and articles, for example, 'at one of your restaurants for full-time worker.' To improve, focus on sentence boundaries and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
