Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I hope this email finds you well. As an enthusiastic employee in your company, I would like to request about my working hours.
Firstly, I want you to reduce my working hours as I have started my study in MBA as a part time. That time will be in the morning, so i will not be able to work from the morning.
Moreover, I would prefer to work after 1 PM. It would be good for me to maintain my school schedule and working time hours as per rules and regulations of the country.
Furthermore, I am working as a junior accountant at Coast Capital, and I will study for finance and accounting that will we beneficial for my work because whatever i am going to study, that will be helpful in my work like maintaining cashflows, bookkeeping, etc..
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
Darshil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state the reason for the request (MBA studies), specify the desired hours (after 1 PM), and explain the benefit to the employer (applying finance and accounting knowledge to your current role). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To improve, you could provide more specific details regarding the MBA program or the exact nature of the 'finance and accounting' skills to make the argument more persuasive and fully developed, as the current explanation is somewhat brief.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. While these are effective, the flow is slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. For instance, the transition between your study schedule and the benefits to the company could be more tightly integrated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enthusiastic', 'maintaining', and 'bookkeeping'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and repetitive phrasing. For example, 'that time will be in the morning' is slightly unnatural, and 'working time hours' is redundant. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding unnecessary repetition. Expanding your vocabulary to include more professional, business-oriented terminology would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'request about my working hours' (should be 'request a reduction in my working hours'), 'started my study in MBA' (should be 'started my MBA studies'), and 'that will we beneficial' (a typo for 'be'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for small typos to improve your accuracy.
