Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining the reason for the request, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of how the study benefits the employer is a bit repetitive and could be more professionally articulated. While the task is fully addressed, the lack of depth in the supporting arguments keeps this at a mid-level band. The structure is clear, and the purpose of the letter is immediately apparent to the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the request. There is a clear progression from the introduction to the specific request and finally the justification. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., the frequent use of 'so' to link ideas). Some sentences feel disjointed, such as the transition between the request for hours and the explanation of the course. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'profeesion', 'scedule', 'aquire', and 'knowlege', which are noticeable. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic phrasing. While the student attempts to use topic-specific language related to the workplace and professional development, the execution is hindered by these recurring spelling mistakes and a lack of more sophisticated collocations. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and expanding their repertoire of formal business terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('will be start'), missing articles ('the skill development'), and awkward phrasing ('caring the elderly people'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning remains clear despite these errors, the frequency of mistakes in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage would be highly beneficial.
