Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mamoothy,
I am writing this letter to request you to limit my office hours as I recenlty, join the part time firm related to digital marketing.
The reason why I want to decrease my working hours is for my recently joined course which needed full dedication and extra concentration. This part time job will help me to gain more knowledge about how marketing work on social media. The part time job starts from evening at 5:00 PM so I want to leave the office around 4:30 PM. In order to cover my shift I will join early in the morning around 8:00 am so i can complete all the work by afternoon.
The current course which I am pursuing will benefit me for my future jobs and also beneficial for our company to generate more sales in upcoming years. As, we have limited marketer in our firm this would be a great opportunity for me as well as for the agency.
To conclude, if you agree on this matter feel free to reach out to me on any social platform.
Your sincerly,
Ayesha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for the request (part-time study), specify the desired hours (leaving at 4:30 PM, starting at 8:00 AM), and describe the benefits to the employer (generating more sales). The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the explanation of how your studies will benefit the company could be more detailed to be more persuasive. Overall, the response is relevant and addresses all parts of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'The reason why', 'In order to', and 'To conclude' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the request for hours and the benefits to the employer is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used, but the structure could be improved by separating the request for hours and the justification for the study into distinct, well-developed paragraphs. The flow is generally easy to follow, though some connections between sentences feel slightly mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dedication', 'concentration', and 'agency'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'limit my office hours' (better: 'reduce my working hours') and 'join the part time firm' (better: 'enrolled in a part-time course'). Additionally, there are some spelling errors like 'recenlty' and 'sincerly'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of professional collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'as I recenlty, join' (tense error), 'course which needed' (tense consistency), and 'As, we have limited marketer' (pluralization error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While you attempt complex sentences, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses, as well as ensuring that complex structures are punctuated correctly to avoid confusion.
