Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining the reason for the reduction, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of the third point regarding the benefits to the employer is somewhat limited. While you mention that the course will add value, providing a more specific example of how your new skills in physiotherapy could improve patient outcomes or clinic efficiency would have strengthened your argument and better fulfilled the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the request to the details of the schedule and finally to the justification. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'I believe' and 'In addition' (implied). However, the use of linking words is somewhat repetitive and basic. To improve, you could incorporate a wider range of cohesive devices to connect your sentences more fluidly, such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in light of this.' The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using subject-specific terms like 'physiotherapy,' 'neuro,' and 'ortho.' However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'shedule' (schedule), 'gionig' (going), 'physiptherapy' (physiotherapy), 'benificial' (beneficial), and 'signifacant' (significant). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While the meaning remains clear, the spelling inaccuracies prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading your work for common spelling mistakes will significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing to request...' and 'I kindly request that my work schedule be reviewed...' However, there are consistent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction. For example, 'This course is aimed to enhance' should be 'This course is aimed at enhancing,' and 'I believe, this course help me' should be 'I believe this course will help me.' Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score.
