Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining the reason for the request, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of how your studies will benefit the company is a bit vague, stating only that you will learn 'knowledgeable ideas' to 'boost our business'. To improve, you should provide more specific details about how your business management course will directly apply to your current role or company operations. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the expression of ideas is occasionally hindered by grammatical errors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You have used some basic cohesive devices such as 'Hence' and 'I am writing to', which help the flow of information. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the awkward phrasing 'Hence, so I can give proper time'. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally to connect your ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your request clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'part-time study' and 'business management'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'do less hours' (instead of 'reduce my working hours'), 'proper attentions' (instead of 'proper attention'), and 'preparation for study become more tried to my body' (which is unclear). To improve, focus on learning common collocations and phrases used in professional correspondence. Expanding your range of vocabulary beyond basic terms will help you express your ideas with more precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I would to start' (missing 'like'), 'working long at office' (incorrect phrasing), and 'it will helpful' (missing 'be'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence boundaries and word order. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs. Reviewing basic sentence construction will help you reduce the frequency of these errors and improve the overall readability of your writing.
