Student answer (Band 6.5)

Respected Sir,

I want to address you about my working hours because as you know I was waiting from my college to get participate in the pharmacy technician course. So, finally I got invitation from them last week and they are asking to join from next week.

They sent me the schedule that is from Monday to Thursday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm which would be difficult for me to come for the job because usually my all shifts start from morning till afternoon. That would be hard for me to manage all things at the same day. So, can you please put me on evening schedule or weekends anytime. That would be a great option for me.

Moreover, it will be beneficial for both of us as I am interested in pharmacy technician as I am working in pharmacy and you are also looking for a compounding person. When I will complete my study so definitely you do not need to hire someone as I will handle everything handle about compounding.

It is my humble request, and I would be very appreciating for this.

Your's faithfully,

Jaspreet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining the reason for the request, specifying the desired hours, and highlighting the benefits to the employer. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Respected Sir' is slightly unconventional for a standard business letter in English (usually 'Dear [Name]' or 'Dear Manager' is preferred). The ideas are clear and relevant, though the development of the benefits could be slightly more professional. Overall, you have successfully communicated your request and provided the necessary supporting details to satisfy the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'So', to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the schedule request and the benefits could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the referencing within paragraphs is more precise to avoid repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'pharmacy technician', 'compounding', and 'schedule'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'get participate in' (should be 'participate in') and 'I would be very appreciating' (should be 'I would be very appreciative'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and common collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more formal business phrases would enhance the professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I was waiting from my college to get participate' and 'handle everything handle about compounding'. There are also issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain errors that slightly distract the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the number of error-free sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
