Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the reason for the request, the specific hours required, and the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the study benefits the employer is a bit vague, relying on general statements like 'new techniques for smarter work' rather than specific examples. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening sentence is slightly redundant ('I am writing to request that i would like to...'). Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of the arguments could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the request to the explanation and finally the benefits. Paragraphing is used, though the structure is somewhat fragmented. Cohesive devices are present but basic (e.g., 'Thus', 'This study'). There is some repetition in the phrasing, and the transition between the request for hours and the explanation of the study could be smoother. The letter is easy to follow, but the use of linking words is not yet sophisticated or varied enough to warrant a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'persue' (pursue) and 'volutree' (voluntary), and some awkward phrasing like 'fresh studies done by specialist'. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday words. To improve, you should focus on using more precise professional terminology and ensuring correct spelling of key words related to your field of study and work.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('This study allow me'), article usage, and capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
