Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request you to reduce my working hours as I am going to take part time study.
I have been enrolling in project management studies. So, I cannot work seven days a week. My course will be starting from 15th august and it will take 6 months to complete. My classes will be on Thursday to Sunday every week. I am available to work from Monday to Wednesday.
My decision will not only enhance my knowledge but it will also help in our business growth. I will learn how to work in a team. On top of that, I will get the opportunity to work with some international project management experts. They Will teach me about partnership skills and this skill will help us to establish a strong bond with overseas organizations. As we know that sometimes we face difficulties in completing the task in mentioned deadline. This subject will help us to meet the deadlines too.
Please let me know what is your opinion about it. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
Rimple Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for the request (project management studies), specify the desired working hours (Monday to Wednesday), and provide a logical explanation for how the employer will benefit. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a boss. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the section regarding how the new skills will assist with international partnerships and meeting deadlines. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and the response is fully relevant to the task instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On top of that' and 'As we know that', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the request to the schedule, and finally to the benefits for the company. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different requirements of the task, ensuring the reader can follow your argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'project management', 'overseas organizations', and 'partnership skills'. While the vocabulary is generally functional and accurate, it lacks the sophistication or 'less common' lexical items that would push the score into the higher bands. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication, but the phrasing is somewhat straightforward. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and varied academic or professional terminology to express your ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I am going to take part time study' (should be 'part-time studies'), 'My course will be starting from 15th august' (needs capitalization), and 'what is your opinion about it' (slightly informal phrasing). There are also minor errors in article usage and verb tense consistency. However, these errors do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on refining subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent use of formal sentence structures.
