Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
With due respect I wanted to state that I have to reduce my working hours so that I can study part time. From next week my university classes will be started so it will be difficult for me to manage studies while working for full hours at office. I will be having assignments and projects to work on for which more time is required.
I would give you a break down of how many hours will I be able to work. Since my classes would be in the evening so I will be available for work from morning till evening and after 5pm I will go to my university.
I am sure that these part time studies will help me in growing company and making more profits. Basically, the subject that I have chosen are relating to marketing and content creation so, by studying these factors I will have skills for marketing. This will help increase sales of our company, resulting in more profit.
Looking forward to you to consider my request
Kind regards
M.Sarosh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the need to reduce hours due to university commitments, specify the desired working hours, and outline the benefits to your employer. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of how your studies will benefit the company is quite general. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific examples of how marketing and content creation skills would be applied to your current role. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request, though it could be slightly more professional in its phrasing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Since', 'Basically', and 'This will help' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'assignments', 'projects', 'marketing', and 'content creation'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'growing company' (which should be 'growing the company') and 'the subject that I have chosen are relating to' (which should be 'are related to'). While you successfully communicate your message, the vocabulary is somewhat functional and lacks the more sophisticated or precise collocations that would be expected at a higher band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'my university classes will be started' (passive voice error; should be 'will start'), 'I would give you a break down' (should be 'breakdown'), and 'Looking forward to you to consider' (should be 'Looking forward to you considering'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
