Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear manager,
I am writing to request about my schedule arrangement. The reason behind this, from next month, I am going to enroll in my part-time study on management terminology.
I would really grateful if you could schedule me from Monday to Wednesday for evening shift. As I am available to work openly on weekends. For Thursday and fridays i request to make my time table for early morning shift. This arrangement will allow me to attend my classes effectively.
Beside scheduling request, I would like to explain with my study how can i contribute to our organization. My course is all about management style which are used by the international companies. While acquiring knowledge about every single management structure and accounting efficiency i can help our team to application of different method in practical way.
I really appreciated your attention to this matter. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Amit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining the reason for the request, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that your studies will help with 'management structure and accounting efficiency,' this could be expanded with more specific examples of how these skills would be applied in your current workplace to make the argument more persuasive. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of explanation could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The reason behind this' and 'Beside scheduling request,' to link your ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or unnatural, such as 'Beside scheduling request,' which would be better phrased as 'In addition to this request.' The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, but the flow between sentences could be smoother with a more varied use of linking words and better control of referencing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enroll,' 'management terminology,' and 'organization.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'work openly on weekends' (which is unclear) and 'help our team to application of different method' (which is grammatically incorrect). To improve, you should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word choices are natural in a professional context. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter. Examples include 'I would really grateful' (missing 'be'), 'For Thursday and fridays i request' (capitalization and preposition issues), and 'management style which are used' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your request, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. You should pay closer attention to basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of prepositions to improve your accuracy.
