Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
As your are aware that last week I discussed with you regarding the enrolment in Generative AI course which will commenced from 1st of September.
I am glad to inform you that I have got selected for the respective course and hence, I would like you to reduce my working hours. My classes will be from 8:00 am to 10:00 am from Monday to Friday. Therefore, I would like you to reduce my working time with two hours in the morning, so that I can complete my course in time.
Furthermore, you are aware that today every organisation is making use of Artificial Intelligence and thus, this course will help me in gaining advance knowledge of AI, which could be used in number of ways for the growth of out company. For example, we can use AI for solving our client queries even after working hours without the intervention of work force, thus reducing the need of extra man power. This in turn will reduce the financial burden on organisation.
Kindly, consider my application for reduction in working hours. I would be highly obliged.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Shelley

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained the reason for the request (enrolling in an AI course), specified the desired working hours (a two-hour reduction in the morning), and provided a logical benefit to the employer (using AI to automate client queries). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a supervisor. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands both your needs and the value you bring to the company. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor grammatical slips do not interfere with the professional tone of the request.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Therefore', and 'For example' to link your ideas effectively. The progression of information is smooth, moving from the request to the justification and finally the benefits. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the request from the explanation of benefits. The structure is clear and easy to follow, which is essential for a formal business letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'financial burden', 'intervention of work force', and 'respective course' show an attempt to use more formal, business-appropriate language. However, there are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'out company' (should be 'our company') and 'advance knowledge' (should be 'advanced knowledge'). While these do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered highly flexible or sophisticated. Expanding your range of collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'As your are aware that...' is grammatically incorrect (should be 'As you are aware...'), and 'which will commenced' should be 'which will commence'. Additionally, 'I have got selected' is slightly informal; 'I have been selected' would be more appropriate. While these errors do not prevent the meaning from being understood, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
