Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the reason for the request, the preferred hours, and the benefit to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation of how the studies would benefit the employer is quite brief and lacks professional depth. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, the structure is slightly informal in places. To improve, you should expand on the specific skills you will gain from the RPN program and explicitly link them to how they will add value to your current workplace, such as improved patient care or clinical knowledge.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'I will explain everything step by step' are unnecessary and interrupt the flow of a formal letter. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, such as the jump from your current role to your desire to study. Using more sophisticated linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition to this') would improve the overall flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your request, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations. For example, 'made my mind' should be 'made up my mind', and 'carrier' is a misspelling of 'career'. Additionally, 'full-time employer' is incorrect; you are a 'full-time employee'. While your meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision in these areas prevents a higher score. Focusing on learning common professional collocations and proofreading for spelling errors will significantly enhance your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('When I seen nurses are how become'), tense usage ('I made my mind'), and punctuation errors. The sentence 'I would appreciate you, if you reduce my work hours' is grammatically awkward. To reach a higher band, you need to improve your control over basic sentence construction and ensure that your verb tenses are consistent throughout the letter. Proofreading for these recurring errors is essential.
