Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well in your life. I'm Kashish working in your admin department I want that my working hours get reduced as because I'm I would like to take admission in MBA (part-time) programe.
When I will take admission in Masters then I would be difficult for me to complete my working hours i.e. 9. So I want you to reduce my working hours from 9 hours to 6 hours as a result I able to work efficiently in office.
My online classes of MBA will happen during morning and it would be better if I got night shift. As we both are aware that our company is product based company and if I complete my masters then I would become a good asset for the company. I will bring lot of ideas to the table about sales and marketing as well.
Kindly approve my working hours along with my shift.
Thank you
Kashish

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the specific hours desired, and the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the MBA benefits the company is quite brief and lacks specific detail. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request, though it occasionally slips into informal phrasing. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the professional benefits of your studies, perhaps by linking your MBA coursework to specific departmental goals or projects within your company.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'as a result' and 'as we both are aware' are used, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between the introduction and the body paragraphs feels a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'efficiently', 'asset', and 'department'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I want that my working hours get reduced' and 'programe' (spelling error). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more formal business collocations and ensure you are using the correct terminology for academic and professional contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several grammatical errors, such as 'I'm I would like', 'When I will take admission', and 'as I able to work'. These errors are frequent and occasionally make the text slightly difficult to read. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of control over basic sentence construction and verb tenses limits your score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly.
