Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request you to give me some hours from my full time job so I can do part time study on IT course which help me to advance understanding on my current job and also assist me in future.
I am thinking to do course on morning time and letter at afternoon I will join the company again and finish my work. So in the fresh morning I can easily concentrate on my study as they have a coding system which I barely understand. In addition to that if I have a any doubts or inquiries I can ask my senior colleagues to help me.
However, because this course is related to IT sector it will assist our company to grow better, because as I am learning coding in deep so, I can invest my time build something more valuable for our company.
Thank you so much for your support and understanding. If you need any further details please feel free to contact me.
Yours faithfully
Ritika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt. You explained your motivation for reducing hours, specified the desired schedule, and linked your studies to company benefits. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of how your studies benefit the employer is a bit vague, focusing on general 'coding' rather than specific skills. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are more fully extended with concrete examples. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the structure could be more professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition to that' and 'However' to connect your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'letter at afternoon'. The flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'they' in 'as they have a coding system') is clearer. Overall, the message is easy to follow, but the progression of ideas could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your request clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'IT sector' and 'coding system'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'give me some hours from my full time job' (instead of 'reduce my working hours') and 'learning coding in deep' (instead of 'in-depth'). To improve, focus on learning common collocations and more precise professional terminology to express your needs more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the morning time'), prepositions ('on IT course'), and verb forms ('which help me' instead of 'which will help me'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'I am thinking to do course on morning time and letter at afternoon'. Increasing your control over basic grammar and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your score.
