Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/ Madam

I am writing this letter to inform you that i would like to decrease my working hours in next upcoming schedules

I request you to reduce my working hours because i want to join the early childhood classes as a part time. This course i have to spend part time hours from monday to wedesday in the college from 7.00 am to 3.50 pm. There is no options to study online for this course.

As a full time course, i can only work on the two days of the week such as Thursday and friday from 7.00am to 5.30 pm.

While studing part time of early childhood education will help me to get a full license of early childhood educator 2. As now i only CCA so i can only help the educator. But when i will get my license you can extend your centre. I will the become the lead of the room to be in the ratio with the children's.

I am kindly requesting you to reduce my working hours. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Your faithfully

Bhupender

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for the request (early childhood classes), specify the desired working hours (Thursday and Friday), and describe the benefit to the employer (gaining a qualified lead educator). However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how your studies benefit the employer is slightly repetitive and could be more professionally articulated. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though some phrasing is a bit informal or unclear, such as 'There is no options to study online'. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of the argument could be improved for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure, moving from the purpose of the letter to the specific request and the justification. Paragraphing is used, though the indentation is inconsistent. You use some cohesive devices like 'As a full time course' and 'But when i will get my license', but these are sometimes used awkwardly or mechanically. The flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors, which makes the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition') to connect your points more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'decrease', 'join', and 'help'. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'next upcoming schedules' (redundant) and 'get a full license' (a more professional term would be 'obtain a qualification' or 'become a certified educator'). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'wedesday' and 'studing'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more professional, topic-specific vocabulary related to workplace requests and educational qualifications.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'There is no options'), incorrect pronoun usage ('i' should be capitalized), and awkward phrasing ('I will the become the lead'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and the closing salutation ('Your faithfully' should be 'Yours faithfully'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures.
