Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the preferred hours, and the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the course benefits the employer is a bit repetitive and lacks professional depth. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request, though the opening is slightly abrupt. To improve, you should expand on the specific skills gained from the course and how they directly translate to your daily tasks as an insurance agent to make a more persuasive case.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'So for that reason' are used twice in quick succession, which disrupts the flow. Additionally, the transition between the request for time off and the explanation of benefits could be smoother. Using a wider variety of linking words such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in addition' would help create a more professional and cohesive structure throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'prepration' (preparation), 'Eocchange' (Exchange), 'cource' (course), 'prefor' (prefer), and 'hep' (help). Furthermore, some word choices are informal or imprecise, such as 'bring your attention on this letter' and 'give me some day's off'. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on accurate spelling and using more professional collocations, such as 'requesting a reduction in working hours' instead of 'asking for permission to work part time'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include run-on sentences (e.g., 'Dear Sir, please bring your attention...'), incorrect use of apostrophes (e.g., 'day's off'), and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'all marketing strategy and techniques is included'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several missing commas and periods. To improve, focus on sentence boundaries and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree in number, as these errors currently detract from the professional tone of your writing.
