Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr. Ian,
I hope you find this letter in radiant health and high spirits.
I am writing to request you to do the reduction in my working hours, so I can appropriately manage my study with work.
Since three months, I have been on my official leave from college, but from next month, I have to purse my course full-time. As a result, I am not able to work for the complete week because I have the four days classes in a week.
Moreover, my availability for the job is only Thursday, Friday and Sunday throughout the day.
In this semester, I would learn about the marketting that consists of promoting the products, decide the flyers and special discounts for boosting the sales. This study would prove beneficial for your store owing to take decision about the upcoming flyers for Halloween and Christmas weeks.
I am grateful for being part of your workplace as well as your teams. I would appreciate if you consider my request of changing my schedule and take an appropriate steps to handle my situation.
I eagerly awaiting your response.
Yours sincerely,
Sabeer

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the need to reduce hours for study, specify the desired working days (Thursday, Friday, and Sunday), and provide a logical explanation of how your marketing studies will benefit the employer. The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a manager. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands both your personal situation and the professional value you continue to offer. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and all requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'As a result,' to link ideas. However, the transition between the explanation of your studies and the benefit to the employer could be smoother. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the overall flow is slightly mechanical in places. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'radiant health,' 'appropriately manage,' and 'beneficial.' There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'purse' instead of 'pursue,' 'marketting' (spelling), and 'take decision' instead of 'make decisions.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and ensure you proofread for common spelling mistakes. The vocabulary is generally functional and appropriate for a professional letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'Since three months' (should be 'For three months'), 'I have the four days classes' (should be 'I have classes four days a week'), and 'I eagerly awaiting' (missing the verb 'am'). These errors are frequent but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and auxiliary verbs. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will also help.
