Dear Sir,

i am writing this letter to inform you that i want to reduce my working hours.

the main reason to reduce working hours is to run a charity office where the children are suffering from end terminal disease like cancer, they all are at their last of cancer, most of them might not see their next birth. i want to work there as volunteer.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the preferred hours, and the benefit to the employer. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding the charity work is quite emotive and lengthy, while the connection to the employer's benefit is less clearly articulated. The student mentions 'practical expertise' but does not fully explain how the specific medical laboratory studies will directly enhance their performance at the current workplace. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the structure could be more professional to better suit the context of a request to a supervisor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the request. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited. There is a reliance on simple sentence structures, and the transition between the personal motivation for volunteering and the professional benefit to the employer is somewhat abrupt. The letter lacks a variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') that would improve the flow between ideas. While the overall progression is clear, the mechanical nature of the connections keeps this in the mid-range.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. Phrases like 'run a charity office' and 'get expertise' are functional but basic. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'end terminal disease' (which is redundant) and 'last of cancer'. The student attempts to use field-specific terminology like 'medical laboratory technology', which is positive, but the overall range is limited. Spelling and word choice errors, such as 'filed' instead of 'field' and 'you approval' instead of 'your approval', occur, though they do not significantly impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'i am doing this job just because it will be beneficial for my practical expertise as i am studying...'. Punctuation is inconsistent; the frequent use of lowercase 'i' is a recurring error that affects the professional presentation. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also inconsistent (e.g., 'in morning shift'). The frequency of these errors means that while the meaning is generally clear, the control over complex structures is not yet consistent enough for a higher band.
