Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly explained your motivation for reducing hours, specified your availability, and articulated the benefits to your employer. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are more fully developed; for instance, when mentioning how your studies will benefit the business, you could provide a more concrete example of a specific skill you expect to acquire, rather than general terms like 'marketing' or 'upselling'. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In order to' and 'After that', to link your sentences. However, the use of transitions could be more varied to improve the flow. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and the repetition of 'I want to' or 'I need to' at the start of sentences makes the structure feel a bit mechanical. Using a wider range of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'part-time employee', 'deadlines', and 'business management'. However, there is some repetition of basic vocabulary, such as 'time', 'studies', and 'business'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms or collocations. For example, instead of saying 'get good marks', you could use 'achieve academic excellence'. There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'I will be full day available', which should be phrased as 'I will be available for the full day'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'I am writing this letter to inform that I want to' is missing an object (inform you). Additionally, 'my part time studies can also prove beneficial for our work as well as' is an incomplete thought. There are also minor punctuation and preposition errors, such as 'in the weekdays' instead of 'on weekdays'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
