Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining the reason for the request, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how your studies benefit the employer is vague, as you mention 'making their savings' without clearly explaining how your new skills in computer programming would add value to the company. To improve, ensure that your arguments are more fully developed and directly linked to the employer's perspective. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it could be more professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Moreover' is used to introduce a point that feels disconnected from the previous paragraph. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'the days, I provided', which lacks a clear antecedent. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrases like 'reduce my working hours' and 'help me out'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'part time taken subjects' and 'pressurize you for making such huge changes'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise, professional vocabulary related to workplace requests and professional development. Using more varied and sophisticated word choices will help you convey your message with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. For example, 'as of i would like' is grammatically incorrect, and there are issues with article usage ('the' vs 'a') and sentence fragments. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentences are complete and correctly punctuated.
