Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing fine.
As you are aware that I am preparing for my final examination of Chartered Accountancy of multi subject assessment 2 (MSA 2) which are due in the first week of next month and I am awaiting for my roll number slip.
As this examination require to revise for multiple subjects and I will have to practice the past papers and from International equivalent exams for the preparation of this MSA2.
With current routine at job, It leaves me insufficient hours at the end of the day apart from exhaustion from the routine work to prepare for MSA2 with fresh mind which is key requisite.
Therefore, I request you to kindly reduce my current weekly working hours from 40 to 30 so i can prepare with fresh mind for this exam for the current month. I will compensate for these hours by working overtime the next month and meet the deadline of the project.
It will also benefit the organization as being qualified resource, post result, I will be able to handle projects with competence and due care. Externally hired qualified resources are high in demand and therefore cost heavy to organizations.
I shall be extremely thankful to you for this consideration.
Regards,
Haseeb Hassan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the reason for your request (preparing for the MSA 2 exam), specified the desired reduction in hours (40 to 30), and provided a logical argument for how your studies would benefit the employer. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a supervisor. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. You have maintained a consistent position throughout the response, ensuring the reader understands your request and the proposed solution.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'With current routine', and 'It will also benefit', which help to link your ideas. However, the flow could be slightly improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of your request.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using professional terms like 'competence', 'due care', and 'qualified resource'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'cost heavy' instead of 'cost-prohibitive' or 'expensive', and 'awaiting for' (the verb 'await' does not take 'for'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, your meaning is always clear, and you successfully use vocabulary relevant to a professional workplace setting. The language is sufficiently precise to convey your request effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you show good control over your writing, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'As you are aware that I am preparing' (which should be 'As you are aware, I am preparing') and 'this examination require' (should be 'requires'). Additionally, there are some minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'at job' instead of 'at my job'. However, these errors do not impede communication, and the overall message remains professional and easy to understand.
