Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir, I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that recently I took admission in college for my further studies that will help me to improve my skills and knowledge related to my field. So, it become difficult for me to manage both(study and work) together. Therefore, I want you to reduce my working hour to 25 hours per week so, that i can focus on my studies as well.
My classes are scheduled at afternoon after 3pm. So, it will be easy for me to work before that like from 9am to 2pm.
I would be grateful if you can do this for me. My study is related to my work so it will be beneficial for the me as well as for the company. It will enhance my knowledge about this field and help me to do more task in the company. Thank you for considering my request.
Warm regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for the request (further studies), specify the desired hours (9am to 2pm), and explain the benefit to the employer (enhancing skills relevant to the company). The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a boss. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of benefits is more detailed; for instance, you could mention a specific project or skill that your studies will help you improve, rather than just stating it will help you 'do more task'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on one of the required points. The progression of ideas is clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. You rely heavily on simple connectors like 'so' and 'and'. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases, such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition to this'. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the request for hours and the explanation of benefits could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks variety and precision. You use simple phrases like 'took admission' and 'do more task'. While these are understandable, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. To improve, incorporate more professional collocations and topic-specific terminology. For example, instead of 'took admission', use 'enrolled in a course', and instead of 'do more task', use 'contribute more effectively to company projects'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'it become difficult' (should be 'it has become'), 'working hour' (should be 'working hours'), and 'at afternoon' (should be 'in the afternoon'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lowercase 'i' in 'so that i can'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the text from reaching a higher band score.
