Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the reason for the request, the preferred hours, and the benefits to the employer. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the explanation of the AI study benefits is clear, the request itself is slightly vague regarding the duration (e.g., 'for a few weeks'). The letter successfully conveys the purpose, but could be improved by providing a more professional structure and a clearer timeline for the proposed change in working hours.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'As' helps to connect ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and some mechanical errors in sentence structure. The transition between the request for part-time hours and the technical explanation of the AI products is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the body of the proposal, and the concluding request, which helps the reader follow the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at using more specific terminology related to the field, such as 'Enterprise Resource Planning', 'invoicing', and 'manufacturing'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor spelling errors, such as 'Intellignece' and 'couses'. The phrase 'give customers a boost' is slightly informal for a business letter. While the student demonstrates a sufficient range to convey their meaning, the lack of precision and occasional spelling mistakes prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'software that help for the people') and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'approve me for working part time'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with capitalization and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these errors indicates that the student has not yet achieved full control over complex structures. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would improve the score.
