Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I am writing this letter to make a request to eliminate my current working hours for my studies.

Firstly, I have tried a lot to manage my schedule according to the job hours but it is getting tough all together. This is because,I want to cut my days for work, as a result , it can give me positive results for my studies.

Furthermore, in this situation it may can be hard for you to decide which working hours cannot be taken off. For that, I would say that closing week days would be great approach to go on as on the last days of the week company can more focus on the targeted sales, eventually, I can give my best to escalate into the sales.

Lastly, I am very positive on my this decision as my business study can give wide range of ideas to hit the sales goal annually by implementing latest strategies on which I am currently working on in my studies.

I hope you would really appreciate my this decision and looking forward to hear from you.

Best regards,

sam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points, though the development of ideas is somewhat limited. You explain the need for study time, suggest specific hours (weekdays), and link your studies to company sales goals. However, the tone is occasionally inconsistent, and some explanations, such as the specific benefit to the employer, are a bit vague. To improve, ensure your arguments are more clearly articulated and professional in tone. You have addressed the prompt requirements sufficiently to meet the criteria for a mid-range band, but more detailed justification for how your studies will specifically benefit the company would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Lastly' to structure the argument. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'in this situation it may can be hard'. The flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors, which makes the progression feel a bit disjointed at times. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that your sentences connect more naturally to one another.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. You rely on somewhat repetitive or simple phrasing, such as 'tried a lot' and 'give my best'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'escalate into the sales' and 'closing week days'. While the meaning is clear throughout the letter, the range is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions that would demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You make several grammatical errors, such as 'it may can be hard', 'my this decision', and 'looking forward to hear'. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with the misuse of commas and spacing after punctuation marks. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct modal verb usage, and standard punctuation rules.
