Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain the reason for the request (Diploma engineering studies), specify the desired hours (Saturday), and outline the benefits to the employer (training modules and rejection reduction). However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation of how your studies will benefit the company is a bit disjointed and lacks professional polish. To improve, ensure that your arguments are presented in a more structured and formal manner, clearly linking your academic goals to the specific needs of your workplace.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally absent. For example, the transition between your current role and your study plans is abrupt. Some sentences are linked with basic conjunctions like 'and' or 'so that', which limits the flow. To reach a higher band, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition to this') to create a more sophisticated and natural progression of ideas throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including industry-specific terms like 'insulator', 'surge arrestor', and 'corrective action'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'root cost' instead of 'root cause' and 'improvements imlement' instead of 'implementing improvements'. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they do indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and spelling. Expanding your vocabulary to include more formal business-related phrases would significantly enhance the professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('my classes will held'), incorrect verb tenses ('while I was make a plan'), and missing articles or prepositions. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Practising the correct use of modal verbs for requests would also be beneficial for this type of formal letter.
