Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir,
I hope you are doing good.
I would like to inform you that from the upcoming weak i am going to start my part time studies which means its not possible to work full time hours.
The schedule of the classes are early morning to afternoon which is the basically the same time of my starting time at work .So , i would like to request you to do some changes in terms of shift timing to switch from morning to late late afternoon.
My education will be advantageous for the company point of view as it relates to the accounts , in case if they need somebody in peak hours where the company requires another employee related this ,they will save money by not expending money on the training and wasting time on another hiring process , take to me into the consideration.
Thankyou for the understanding.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining the reason for the request, specifying the desired hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how your studies benefit the company is a bit convoluted and could be more clearly articulated. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the tone is slightly informal for a formal request to a boss. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended and presented in a more professional, polished manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as the transition 'The schedule of the classes are...'. Some sentences are disjointed, and the flow between ideas could be improved with more sophisticated linking words. For example, the final paragraph feels a bit rushed and lacks a smooth transition from the benefits of your study to the closing statement. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices would significantly enhance the overall flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your request clearly. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'expending money' instead of 'spending' or 'investing', and 'take to me into the consideration' which is grammatically incorrect and unnatural. You rely on basic vocabulary throughout the letter. To improve, try to incorporate more precise professional terminology related to workplace requests and business benefits. The spelling error 'weak' instead of 'week' also detracts from the professional quality of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The schedule of the classes are'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('in case if they need somebody'). Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with the inconsistent spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence structure will help you achieve a higher band.
