Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Boss,
I am writing to formally request a te,porary I’m my working hours, as I intend enroll in a part-time Master’s degree in Data Analytics starting next month.
To manage my coursework effectively, I would like to reduce my full-time schedule 24 hours per week. Specifically, I propose working three full days, from Tuesday to Thuesday, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 Pm. This schedule will allow me to attend lectures on Mondays and Friday while keeping my core task responsibilities organized and predictable.
I believe this program will directly benefit the company. The advanced skills I gain in predictive modeling and business intelligence will allow me to automate our team’s reporting processes and bring deeper analytics to our upcoming client project. Furthermore, I will ensure all my current projects are seamlessly transitioned or completed without disruption during this change.
Thank you for considering my request. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this proposal further in person at your convenience.
Your sincerely
Anil Rai

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for the request (Master’s degree), specify the desired working hours (three full days, Tuesday to Thursday), and provide a persuasive argument regarding how your studies will benefit the employer through automation and advanced analytics. The tone is appropriate for a formal business request. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. No parts of the task are omitted, and the response is fully relevant to the instructions provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a professional closing. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use effective cohesive devices such as 'Specifically,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To manage my coursework effectively' to link your ideas. The progression of information is smooth, moving from the request to the schedule and finally to the benefits for the company. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a professional context, such as 'formally request,' 'predictive modeling,' and 'seamlessly transitioned.' While there are a few minor slips—such as 'te,porary I’m' (likely a typo for 'temporary reduction') and 'Thuesday' (spelling error)—these do not impede communication. You successfully use topic-specific terminology related to your field, which adds precision to your request. To reach a higher band, ensure that minor typographical errors are eliminated through careful proofreading, as these detract slightly from the otherwise professional tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. For example, the sentence 'The advanced skills I gain in predictive modeling and business intelligence will allow me to...' is well-constructed. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as the missing preposition in 'reduce my full-time schedule 24 hours' (should be 'to 24 hours') and the typo 'te,porary I’m'. However, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and sentence boundaries is generally strong. The errors present are non-systematic and do not cause any confusion for the reader.
