Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: the reason for the request, the preferred schedule, and the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation of how the French course benefits the company is a bit repetitive and lacks professional depth. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, the expression of ideas could be more sophisticated to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. The purpose is clear, and the reader understands the request, but the supporting arguments could be expanded with more specific detail to demonstrate a more thorough response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a logical flow from the request to the schedule and finally to the benefits. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For instance, the transition 'Furthermore' is used, but the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit simplistic. To improve, you should aim to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural and less forced.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'took admission' (should be 'enrolled in') and 'increase sells' (should be 'increase sales'). The phrasing is functional but basic, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. While the meaning is always clear, the limited range of vocabulary prevents the response from achieving a higher score. Focusing on more precise professional collocations would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I want a request to you regarding reduce' (should be 'I would like to request a reduction in'), 'before i used to work' (should be 'previously I worked'), and 'after the successfully completion' (should be 'after the successful completion'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
