Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir
I am writing to inform that I want to work less to study Clinical assistant course. I took admission and got approval from university this month.
Basically its six month Part-time study, due to this I want to reduce my working hours. its not possible to be present at both places at same time. I want some time to study and do my inernship.
Presently I go to university every mondays, tuesdays and friday. I am happy to work on weekends and Thursdays. I do not have any preferred time, whatever works for you I am happy to work.
I will be a Clinical Assistant when I finish my course. As soon as I get certificate from my university, I will apply for that position in our hospital. I can see that posting is coming very often. I will transition myself from Housekeeping to Clinical assisstant. That would benefit our organisation, as such I will be internal aplicant and process will be more fast and convinient for human resource.
Thank you
Regards
Lily.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. First, the writer explains the reason for reducing working hours by stating, "I want to work less to study Clinical assistant course." Second, the specific schedule is outlined clearly: "I go to university every mondays, tuesdays and friday. I am happy to work on weekends and Thursdays." Finally, the benefit to the employer is described in the fourth paragraph, noting that hiring an internal applicant from Housekeeping to Clinical Assistant makes the human resource process faster and more convenient. The tone is appropriate for a workplace letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. Although there are some minor developmental gaps, all parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, reasons, proposed schedule, organizational benefits, and sign-off. Cohesive devices are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive (for example, starting multiple sentences with "I"), but overall progression is easy to follow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the letter, and referencing is mostly clear, such as "That would benefit our organisation." While the letter lacks the sophisticated logical connectors of higher bands, the overall organization is coherent, satisfying the criteria for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating workplace and academic concepts such as "part-time study," "internal applicant," and "human resource." However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including "Clinical assistant course" instead of 'Clinical Assistant course', "inernship" instead of 'internship', and "mondays" (capitalisation error). Additionally, phrasing like "I took admission and got approval from university" is somewhat unnatural. These errors do not impede communication, allowing the response to comfortably secure a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional or dependent clauses ("As soon as I get certificate from my university, I will apply for that position"). There are several grammatical errors and punctuation omissions throughout the text, including missing articles ("study Clinical assistant course," "get certificate"), capitalization errors ("mondays," "tuesdays and friday"), and minor preposition slips. However, these errors rarely impede overall communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, which corresponds to a Band 6.0.
