Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all the required bullet points of the task well. You successfully explained why you want to reduce your working hours by mentioning your enrollment in a business course at Conestoga College. You clearly stated which hours you would like to work, specifically from 8 am to 4 pm. Additionally, you described how your part-time studies would benefit your employer by explaining that you will gain management perspectives and help increase the number of certified employees. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the tone is appropriate for a workplace communication, maintaining a polite and professional stance throughout. Your ideas are adequately developed and fulfill all the prompt requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical progression. You start with an appropriate greeting, state your purpose, elaborate on your schedule and benefits, and close with a professional sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this' and 'Moreover' are used to connect your ideas, although they are a bit mechanical at times. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the main points, making the letter easy to follow. However, referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as using 'this study' and 'it' without entirely clear antecedents, but overall the logical flow is maintained throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to successfully convey your message. You have attempted some less common vocabulary items and business-related terms, such as 'enrollment', 'career opportunities', and 'management perspectives'. However, there are some noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'which is stating from 5 pm' (stating instead of starting) and 'employess' (misspelling of employees). Phrases like 'gain different styles of management perspectives' are also slightly awkward. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the lexical range is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly without impeding the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to inform you that I have enrolled in a business course...'. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors present in the text, for instance, 'Dear sir' (should be capitalised as 'Dear Sir'), 'Due to this reason, I want to change my working hours so it will not affect the work and study as well' (awkward phrasing and pronoun reference), and 'which increase certified employees number' (missing auxiliary verb and incorrect word order). While these errors occur fairly frequently, they rarely impede overall communication, and many of your basic sentences remain accurate.
