Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to request you that I want to reduce my job hours in order to pursue my part-time education. Firstly, I would like to inform you that currenly I am working as pharmacy assistant in Shoppers drug mart, and working as a assistant , I am getting limited exposure in pharmacy work flow and other areas of pharmacy work ,for example, medication filling , labelling, cleaning etc. In order to get wide exposure in pharmacy, I have to have knwledgein other areas, like data entry of prescription, patient communication, phone answering, insurance billing, bliste-pack check. Moreover, in order to learn these skills I have to study certification course of pharmacy technical assistant, therefore, I want to reduce my working hours.
In addition, I have already applied for this course last month, and they will start ther lecture from next week. Thus, I could only work 20 hours per week only on Friday, saturdayand Sunday.
Furthermore, I would like to mention that, once I will complete this course, my knowldge and skills help you significantly in your pharmacy. This is because, currently in our pharmacy, no pahrmacy technical assistant avilable, due to this pharmacist have to solve some issue regarding insurance billing, patient problem , blister-pack etc., So if I will get the certification then they will not have to spent their time and enery in those areas, in result, they can pay more attention on patient services and patient treatment.
Regards,
Manan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully covered all bullet points outlined in the task instructions. You have clearly explained why you want to reduce your working hours, specifically stating the need to pursue a pharmacy technical assistant certification course to gain broader practical exposure. Furthermore, you have specified the exact hours you are available to work, namely 20 hours per week restricted to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Finally, you have well described how your part-time studies will benefit your employer, noting that your future certification will relieve pharmacists from administrative burdens such as insurance billing and patient queries, allowing them to focus entirely on patient care. The purpose of the letter is clear and fully developed throughout, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter maintains a logical flow and clear progression of ideas from the initial request to the benefits offered to the employer. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main points, such as the rationale for the reduction, the proposed schedule, and the workplace benefits. Cohesive devices are employed, including transitional phrases like 'Firstly,' 'In addition,' and 'Furthermore.' However, some cohesion is slightly mechanical, and referencing is occasionally clunky, such as 'they will start ther lecture' and repetitive sentence openings. Overall, the organizational structure is coherent and the message is easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 6.5 or 7.0 descriptors, comfortably earning a Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, successfully conveying professional concepts related to pharmacy work, such as 'medication filling,' 'insurance billing,' and 'patient communication.' However, there are notable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'currenly' instead of currently, 'knwledgein' instead of knowledge in, 'bliste-pack' instead of blister-pack, and 'pahrmacy' instead of pharmacy. While you attempt some less common terminology, these recurrent lexical and spelling errors restrict the score. The range is sufficient to communicate your message clearly, but precision and control are inconsistent, placing it at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an ability to mix simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'So if I will get the certification then they will not have to spent their time...' However, grammatical control is somewhat inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including tense and verb form issues like 'request you that I want,' 'working as a assistant' instead of an assistant, 'they will start ther lecture' instead of lectures, and 'have to spent' instead of have to spend. Punctuation and article usage also need refinement. Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the sentence structures show adequate variety, meriting a Band 6.0.
