Student answer (Band 6.0)
I am writting this letter to inform you that from next september I am going to join college for studying accounts. where I am going to learn not only accountability but finances too
As you know its hard to balance work load as well as studies at one time so I am requesting to you to reduce my working hours so that I can spend my spare time for studies.
I would like to inform you that my college classes going to be onilne which will start from 6pm to 9pm every other day of the week so from 7am to 4pm is convinient for me to work intead of 8am to 5pm. which is going to reduce my time to refresh up and get ready for academics.
It is exciting that studying part- time will helps your business to grown up as a general manager but from now onwards I can handle fanancial loads too which I am learning from my accounts classes.
Hoping for the best that you will definately give a chance to handle that department as well. I will give my best to gain profit for our company meanwhile which allow me to gain some experience side by side.
Thank you understanding.I will be higly obliedged to you. waiting for a postive response from your side.
Your faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. The writer clearly explains the motivation to reduce working hours in order to pursue college studies in accounts, outlines the preferred working hours from 7am to 4pm instead of 8am to 5pm, and describes the benefit to the employer by offering to handle financial loads. However, the tone and content contain some role-play inconsistencies, given that the student signs off as the 'General Manager' while writing a letter to their boss to request reduced hours. Furthermore, some ideas like reducing time to 'refresh up' are slightly unnatural in context. Despite these minor pragmatic slips, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a recognizable structure with a clear opening, body paragraphs addressing separate points, and a sign-off. Paragraphing is used to separate ideas, such as the reason for studying, the proposed schedule, and the benefits to the company. However, the logical progression is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions and a lack of cohesive devices between sentences. For instance, the transition between discussing online classes and proposing working hours feels rushed. Referencing is also slightly unclear in places, such as 'It is exciting that studying part- time will helps your business to grown up as a general manager', where the pronoun reference is confusing. Overall arrangement is coherent, placing this response at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to employment and education, such as 'working hours', 'part-time', 'online classes', and 'experience'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'writting' instead of writing, 'convinient', 'intead', 'grown up', 'fanancial', and 'obliedged'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with mixed success, such as 'highly obliged', which is somewhat overly formal and clunky for this context. The inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('so that I can spend my spare time for studies', 'which is going to reduce my time'). However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several recurring grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('my college classes going to be', 'helps your business to grown up'), missing prepositions, and awkward phrasing ('Hoping for the best that you will definately give a chance'). Punctuation is also faulty, with missing commas and run-on sentences. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, this warrants a Band 5.5.
